Fiona Wilkinson, Psy.D.

I’ve always been curious about how people think.

Why do two people experience the same situation so differently?
Why do some thoughts spiral into anxiety or self-criticism while others pass by unnoticed?
And why do intelligent, capable people so often feel stuck in patterns they can’t quite explain?

These questions are what led me into behavioural psychology.

For more than twenty years I’ve worked with people trying to make sense of their thoughts, emotions, and behaviour — particularly those living with ADHD, anxiety, trauma histories, or patterns such as rumination, emotional overwhelm, and rejection sensitivity.

What I’ve learned is that many of the difficulties people struggle with are not about motivation or character. More often, they are the result of deeply learned patterns in how the mind interprets events and responds emotionally.

My work focuses on helping people understand those patterns and develop practical ways to respond differently.

I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches including REBT, CBT, DBT, ACT, and schema-informed therapies, but the aim is always the same: to help people recognise unhelpful beliefs, understand emotional reactions, and build strategies that work in everyday life.

Alongside my clinical work I’ve created Help with ADHD, a space where psychological ideas can be explained in a fun, practical and accessible way.

I’m currently developing the AWARE framework — a model designed to help people pause, understand what is happening internally, and respond more intentionally:

Awareness Work the Belief Allow the Emotion Respond Execute

Outside work, I enjoy ideas, writing, running, long walks, and the occasional slightly over-ambitious project — often accompanied by my Savannah cat, Caspurr.

Because understanding ourselves a little better is often the beginning of real change.
